Maintaining The Race Horse TrailerTraveling with ones horse can be a great experience and it provides the horse and the owner with opportunities to meet with other owners and get the chance to have the horse interact with other horses. Frequent travelers should make every effort to try and stay ahead of their maintenance of the trailers else it may end up damaging the precious cargo inside. Numerous accident have happened in the past and the worst has been that the horse fell through the floor of the trailer and was severely mangled in the process. This happened because the floor of the trailer was rotting through and was not replaced or fixed before hand. Safety ropes that bind the horse to the inside of the trailer should have been worn to help prevent such things from happening. Several authorities on car maintenance have surmised that while the car owners take a big premise for safety, it is follow up and continuous inspection that they fail in. What good is the safety harness if one does not make pains to see if they are secured every so often. A national safety agency has advised that the following items be taken with travelers at all times and to conduct a safety inspection everytime they head out just in case. The checklist: -conduct checks on pressures of tires and spares. -check the jacks and reflectors if working. -check the stability and integrity off the floorboards. -check the lifespan of safety and rear warning lights of the trailer. -inspecting the wheel parts and the bearings in particular. -have a yearly inspection and assessment of the various cracks in the trailer head. -have the wires of the trailer and connecting joints tested for integrity. -the emergency break away or gear boxes have to be checked if they still will work under pressure. Other factors can include: -driving safely while being wary of obstacles on the road. -staying at constant speeds and not using the brakes often else it cause a bunch up at sudden stops. -avoid making sharp turns while turning so that the jack knife effect in most accidents are avoided. -avoid overtaking especially on thin roads. it is better to wait out the line than to risk doing so fir the clearance is 25 + feet and it takes a long time for the overtake. -make sure that the trailer is securely attached to the hauler so that sudden stops do not dislodge it. -one must make sure that the hauling vehicle like a pickup is well equipped to handle hauling loads over long distances. If the hauler is under powered then it could spell problems later on and could cause the trip to be shortened or cancelled. -one should check if the trailer and cargo pass heath regulations as well as safety checks per state. There could be various problems with them so it is advised that it be fixed the soonest. There are many factors that need to be considered in traveling with a horse. If one can assure themselves of covering every safety angle then all is well. |
